The Resident - Season 01

Hospitals, like almost every structure, have a hierarchy, and as a third-year resident, Conrad going to toe-to-toe with the Chief of Surgery is a stretch. Both actors sell it well, so it's not as bothersome as it should be.

The Resident - Season 01

It was laughable when he approached Nic demanding a new resident. That takes a serious pair of cajones to think he has any choice in the matter, but in a field that requires a touch of arrogance and balls, it was a small moment that showed that he belongs at Chastain Park; he's cut out for the job.

The Resident centers on a tough, brilliant senior resident who guides an idealistic young doctor through his first day, pulling back the curtain on what really happens, both good and bad, in modern-day medicine.

THE RESIDENT: L-R: Manish Dayal and Matt Czuchry in the "Total Eclipse of the Heart" season finale episode of THE RESIDENT airing Monday, May 14 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. 2018 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: Guy D'Alema/FOX

And while tipping off the FBI to catch Dr. Hunter removing her incriminating medical records at her clinic might suggest that Dr. Bell, by doing the right thing, was redeeming himself at the end of the season, make no mistake.

It is perhaps no surprise that the show got a Season 6. After all, it is the network's second most-popular drama behind 9-1-1 among the 18 to 49 demographic. As this demo is key to advertisers, it may have secured the show a sixth season.

Three of the show's five seasons so far aired that month. Season 4 only aired in January due to COVID delays, while Season 1 began at the start of 2018 due to the show being a midseason addition to the Fox schedules.

But with The Resident not returning until midseason, Chapman and the rest of the writers imagined that the world would likely be different than it was in June when the season four writers room returned to work.

The pandemic has also taken a catastrophic economic toll on the entire country, and Chastain Park Memorial Hospital is not immune. The financial situation of the ritzy private hospital will completely change when it goes bankrupt in season four and turns into a public hospital with an entirely different demographic.

The season six cast includes Matt Czuchry as Dr. Conrad Hawkins, Jessica Lucas as Dr. Billie Sutton, Bruce Greenwood as Dr. Randolph Bell, and Jane Leeves as Dr. Kit Voss. Manish Dayal stars as Dr. Devon Pravesh, Malcolm-Jamal Warner is Dr. AJ Austin, Anuja Joshi is Dr. Leela Devi, Andrew McCarthy plays Dr. Ian Sullivan, and Kaley Ronayne is Dr. Cade Sullivan.

9-1-1, the new first responder procedural, has done well enough in the ratings to earn an early season two renewal from FOX. Now the network is introducing The Resident TV show. Is a medical procedural just what the doctor ordered? Will The Resident be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.

Nic continued her investigation into Lane in episode 1.12, "Rude Awakenings and the Raptor", leading to the reveal of Lane's backstory during a meeting with her former protégé, Dr. Anthony Ewen. As he recounted, his ex-mentor ran a clinic in Nashville (doing so under her previous married name, Lane Derzius) while she guided him, but during his time there, she was overdosing patients with large amounts of chemotherapy as part of an insurance scheme meant to monetarily benefit herself, with one of them dying due to her actions. Anthony did not ask questions then, but when Lane was doing the same at clinic in Atlanta, which resulted in another death, he confronted her. In response, the villainess ruined Ewen's career before moving on to Chastain Park. When Lane discovered that Nic was asking Allie Palmer (Lane's assistant) for her files, she set up the Hunter Cancer Center to appear that it had been broken into, resulting in Nic's arrest during the season's penultimate episode, "Run, Doctor, Run".

The season 1 finale, "Total Eclipse of the Heart", had Devon learning of something even more shocking: Olivia Tan, a hypochondriac and frequent patient, was diagnosed with lymphoma by Lane, who gave Olivia her first chemotherapy treatment. Tan herself disclosed this information, and as it clearly turned out, she had no signs of cancer whatsoever. After Devon informed Conrad and Nic of his discovery, the three of them went to Randolph with their findings, with Nic revealing that patients of Lane's have contracted cancer due to the chemotherapy, suggesting that Lily was one of the many that this happened to. Moreover, it also meant that Kendall's second opinion would have uncovered the truth, so Lane orchestrated Lily's demise in order to keep her evil secrets hidden. 041b061a72
